Workshop: AI in Science & Education

The Half-day Workshop for PhD and MSc Students held in Algeria was organised by the University of Amsterdam, a DIGITAfrica project partner. The workshop aimed to strengthen knowledge sharing and capacity building among early-stage researchers.

The activity was designed to bridge the gap between conceptual knowledge and hands-on experience, with a strong emphasis on learning by doing. It combined a 60-minute introductory presentation with an interactive tutorial on the fundamentals of parallel programming on shared-memory architectures. Key concepts of OpenMP and common programming patterns were introduced, followed by practical exercises allowing participants to immediately apply the theoretical content.

The session was highly interactive, encouraging participants to work in small groups and engage in peer learning and collaborative problem-solving. This format supported active participation and helped reinforce understanding through practice. The workshop contributed to strengthening technical skills among MSc and PhD students while supporting DIGITAfrica’s outreach and capacity-building objectives and enhancing the project’s visibility within the Algerian academic community.
