Welcome to the DIGITAfrica Blog: Insights and Stories from the Project
We are pleased to announce the launch of our blog series for the DIGITAfrica project, which officially started in January 2025. The project aims to collaboratively design a framework and ecosystem for a comprehensive pan-African Research Infrastructure (RI) in digital sciences.
Funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme (Grant Agreement No. 101187966), DIGITAfrica is a 36-month initiative scheduled to run until the end of 2027. The project brings together five African Union and eight European Union partners, fostering strong cooperation between African and European institutions.
Our mission is to develop a digital research infrastructure that empowers researchers, drives innovation and fosters socio-economic development across Africa. With a focus on cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence, data science and advanced computing, the project aims to bridge the digital divide and promote inclusivity, paying particular attention to young researchers and women in STEM subjects.
By advancing the principles of open science, DIGITAfrica will ensure equitable access to data and transparent research practices, as well as advanced skill development in key areas such as AI and data science. These efforts will contribute to sustainable, inclusive digital transformation, fostering scientific innovation, economic growth and long-term cooperation between the African Union and the European Union in the field of research infrastructures.
DIGITAfrica is organized into seven Work Packages, each of which contributes to a key dimension of the project. Discover their objectives and tasks in detail here: https://www.digitafrica.eu/work-packages/
Over the next few months, our blog will publish dedicated articles on each WP, providing insights into their progress and key achievements.
