A new DIGITAfrica open-access publication, “Designing a Pan-African Research Infrastructure for Digital Sciences: DIGITAfrica Vision, Blueprint Methodology, and Roadmap,” is now available in EPJ Research Infrastructures.

The paper presents key elements of DIGITAfrica’s approach to laying the foundations for a future pan-African Research Infrastructure for Digital Sciences, addressing the challenge of developing research infrastructure across institutions with different needs, resources and contexts.

Bringing together DIGITAfrica’s vision and approach

The paper presents the broader rationale behind DIGITAfrica and examines how a research infrastructure spanning different institutions and contexts can be progressively developed. It connects the project’s long-term vision with a practical methodology designed to accommodate different research needs, resources and institutional environments.

As part of this approach, the publication introduces the Edge AI and Heterogeneous Networking Blueprints and places their development within the wider roadmap towards a future pan-African research infrastructure.

Beyond the individual technical components, the paper provides a consolidated view of how the different elements of DIGITAfrica come together within a shared approach to research infrastructure development.

Supporting the future of digital research infrastructure in Africa

The publication reflects the collaborative work of partners across the DIGITAfrica consortium and contributes to the project’s broader objective of strengthening digital research capabilities and cooperation between African and European research communities.
